I think being an artist is an odd job. Odd because I think that in some sense we are all artists. Humans are innately creative and everywhere you look you can see that creativity. Artistry is something that is within us all, but something that few people have embraced or nurtured in themselves. I’ve always valued art and felt an extremely strong connection to certain pieces or images that I’ve seen throughout my life. Certain pieces of art stir such strong emotion in me that I know the connection is there almost immediately upon viewing them. It’s this indescribable inspiration that, well, I can’t describe. The other day, I had one of those moments. I would love to share it with you.
I was in Ramona on Halloween, about to shoot a newborn session in the countryside. While scouting locations I found a particularly easy spot to meet up with my clients and I arrived there first. While I was waiting, the sun was at an almost magical angle shining through the windshield of my car. So I jumped out, popped my trunk and retrieved my camera. Just steps from where I parked I saw the light hitting a set of abandoned wood beams and that inspirational feeling pulsed through me. Something incredible happens to me when I’m in “visual” mode and suddenly everything seems to have a frame around itself. Shooting for the five minutes or so before my clients arrived, I captured three images that give me that incredible feeling. I’ll end the text and simply invite you to stop and look at each image for more than just a glance. Let yourself stare at each image for a minute and be aware of your emotions.

This is why I shoot photography.
